Speculation can conclude on the news that Raf Simons is to join the Calvin Klein brand as Chief Creative Officer. This role will see Mr Simons as the head chief, unifying all collections within the Calvin Klein brand.
The circulating rumours of Raf Simons‘ fresh appointment at Calvin Klein couldn’t be made official until now due to the year long clause within his contract held at Dior. Simons’ predecessors, Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli, departed the American company in April of this year. Calvin Klein also stated they appointed Pieter Mulier, Simons’ longtime partner in business, as creative director, reporting directly to Raf. “Mulier will be responsible for executing Simons’ creative and design vision for all men’s and women’s apparel and accessories lines within the Calvin Klein brand.”
Calvin Klein spread the news across their social media channels today. Steve Shiffman, CEO of Calvin Klein, Inc. penned in their statement:
The arrival of Raf Simons as chief creative officer signifies a momentous new chapter for Calvin Klein. Not since Mr. Klein himself was at the company has it been led by one creative visionary, and I am confident that this decision will drive the Calvin Klein brand and have a significant impact on its future. Raf’s exceptional contributions have shaped and modernised fashion as we see it today and, under his direction, Calvin Klein will further solidify its position as a leading global lifestyle brand.. As part of his role as chief creative officer, Mr Simons will oversee all aspects of design, global marketing and communications, and visual creative services. Mr. Simons’ first collections will debut for the fall 2017 season
The anticipation was real as the fashion industry long awaited the recent appointment of Raf Simons. On his departure from Dior late last year, it was widely thought he would be the ideal creative mind to join the Calvin Klein brand due to his previous design aesthetic, even though Simons has strongly criticised the pressures of working in such a fast paced environment along with the strict creative freedom. Raf’s reported salary will be an estimated $18 million for his new role so we cannot wait to see what he brings for Calvin Klein at New York Fashion Week.
Raf Simons will also continue on in his position at the designer’s eponymous label.
