On Friday last it was confirmed that Hedi Slimane, now former Saint Laurent C.D, was leaving the company effective immediately. Kering, the company who own the fashion house, stated the French born designer’s contract would not be renewed.
As the news broke this morning it emerged that taking the leading role would be none other than Anthony Vaccarello (pictured above) which wasn’t a surprise since rumours had started to circulate amongst the fashion world recently.
With his cutting edge, sleek but statement creations, Vaccarello served as Versus Versaces Creative Director for a mere year but had a positively massive impact on the company. In a statement, Designer, Vice President of the Versace Group & friend, Donatella Versace was quoted saying ”While i’m sad to see him leave the Versace family, I wish Anthony Vaccarello tremendous success with his next chapter”.
Although Hedi Slimane (below, right) has been succeeded by Mr Vaccarello, he had evidently revived the brand. Dropping the ‘Yves’ from the brand name was his move, he captured the ad campaigns for Saint Laurent on camera by himself and indeed redesigned the stand alone stores.
Who knows what’s next for Saint Laurent as Anthony takes on the exciting role but we sure will be following his progress. As for Hedi Slimane, who based himself in Los Angeles, it’s onwards and upwards.
